Levels of Work

Zoe-Life has in a short space of time established a footprint of innovative technical approaches, resources and support at:
  • International level (Harvard School of Medicine, Adherence & Support 2004; Swaziland MOH, Malaria Capacity Building 2010-2011, WHO Geneva, IYCF 2011),
  • National level (HCT, I-ACT, IYCF, IMCI),
  • Provincial level (KZN DOH HAST, MCWH, Health Promotion and Office of the Premier). Zoë-Life has a mandate to contribute to the National strategic plan and implementation plans, specifically the KZN PSP, and National Children’s Sector Implementation Plans for 2012-2016,
  • Community levels.

Zoë-Life has intentionally built relationships with and provided services to all levels of Government and with Civil Society wherever possible to promote and improve communications, co-ordination and consistency of policies and standards. This attempt to work across sectors and levels of society facilitates exchange of information, shared implementation strategies and engenders trust.

Technical Support to Government Departments

Zoë-Life has been involved in strengthening systems and developing sustainable health models in the KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa since 2004. Working with the KZN Department of Health, eThekwini Municipality and health facilities, Zoë-Life has provided support to increase access to HIV, TB and Maternal and Child Health Services, through capacity building and resource development in three KZN districts.
At National and International level, Zoë-Life provides policy and social systems support to South African National Health Departments, specifically relating to Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), Integrated Management of Child Illnesses (IMCI), psychosocial support to children and Adult HIV care and support services.

Understanding the political and financial dynamics influencing National, Provincial and Local governments, Zoë-Life has approached relationships with Government officials wisely with flexibility whilst maintaining momentum and responding to identified needs. Zoë-Life has gained invaluable experience in addressing the inevitable challenges experienced in Government partnerships. Zoë-Life has been successful in navigating appropriate approaches and solutions to fulfil SAG (South African Government) requirements whilst creating a positive working environment and stimulating innovation.

Community Development Initiatives

Zoë-Life has worked to strengthen more than 63 grassroots community based organizations and NGOs throughout KwaZulu Natal. Zoë-Life has an integrated approach to community development and social transformation, achieved by training and mentoring CBOs and NGOs, facilitating linkages between community organizations and government facilities, and providing organizational development skills to enhance sustainability.

International Development Initiatives

Zoë-Life has contributed to International forums and Policy development, specifically in the areas of IYCF and children’s health, working with WHO and UNICEF. In addition Zoe-Life has worked with the Government of Swaziland and Tanzania to develop education tools and resources to combat Malaria.
